Designing and executing innovative investigation relevant to the care of patients with cancer of the head and neck region: testing the value of induction chemotherapy; testing the role of EGF-R blockade; testing innovative therapeutic approaches for patients who have squamous cell carcinoma of the oropharynx and who test positively for human papilloma virus antigens; interrogate the ability to employ nanoparticles to detect and target circulating tumor cells in the serum of patients with head and neck cancer.
Mentoring research into the patterns of spread and failure of this disease, the microanatomy of the larynx, cell synchronization as it relates to timing of chemoradiation, and strategies to reduce the toxicities of therapy including brachytherapy and chemoradiation.
