St. Joseph's/Candler and the Nancy N. and J.C. Lewis Cancer & Research Pavilion in Savannah could receive an additional year extension to its three-year designation as a National Cancer Institute's (NCI) National Community Cancer Center's Program (NCCCP), based on its successful completion of its third year goals.
One of only ten health systems in the nation selected for NCCCP in 2007, the Georgia pilot program has been studying ways to provide access to scientific advances in the community setting. With support from the Georgia Cancer Coalition, the program has a clinical alliance with the John B. Amos Cancer Center in Columbus and the Harbin Clinic in Rome. A recent collaborative study involves the effect of navigation services on the timeliness and access for patients with breast cancer. Read more about NCCCP at SJ/C here.
