The Cancer Prevention and Control Research Network (CPCRN) provides an infrastructure for applying relevant research to local cancer prevention and control needs. Its members conduct community-based participatory cancer research across its eight network centers, crossing academic affiliations and geographic boundaries. The CPCRN forms a subgroup of Prevention Research Centers (PRCs), which are CDC’s flagship program for preventing and controlling chronic diseases.
The CPCRN represents a collaboration of cancer divisions from two federal agencies: The Division of Cancer Prevention and Control of the CDC's National Center of Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, and the Division of Cancer Control & Population Sciences of the National Cancer Institute.

Emory Prevention Research Center
The mission of the Emory Prevention Research Center (EPRC), housed at Emory’s Rollins School of Public Health (RSPH), is to prevent cancer and reduce health disparities among residents of rural southwest Georgia.
Established in 2004, the EPRC is one of 35 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-funded Prevention Research Centers nationwide working as a network to conduct disease prevention research and promote public health in partnership with communities.
The EPRC partners with the Southwest Georgia Cancer Coalition and a Community Advisory Board to conduct research, offer training, share research results, and provide evaluation technical assistance to local organizations in 33 counties of rural southwest Georgia. They have partnered to conduct the Health Rural Communities studies and to test a program called Healthy Homes/Healthy Famlies.
In 2009, the CDC awarded EPRC a $6.2 million, five-year grant renewal in support for this EPRC research, as well as training for community-based organizations to build local capacity for health promotion.

Morehouse School of Medicine Prevention Research Center
The Morehouse School of Medicine Prevention Research Center (PRC) was established in 1998. MSM PRC is one of a network of academic research centers funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to achieve local and national health objectives focused on gaining knowledge about the best methodologies for solving the nation's obstinate health problems. These centers engage in interdisciplinary applied prevention research in collaboration with community partners; federal, state, and local health and education agencies; and other universities.
The theme of the PRC is "Risk Reduction and Early Detection in African American and Other Minority Communities: Coalition for Prevention Research."
The mission is to advance scientific knowledge in the field of prevention in African American and other minority communities and to disseminate new information and strategies of prevention.
Since its inception, MSM PRC has worked cooperatively with the communities in which its research is being conducted. The formation of MSM PRC Community Coalition Board included a majority of representatives from these communities. The Board directs the research agenda and PRC activities. Cancer prevention is one research focus of MSM PRC.
Their community-based research focuses on prevention; establishes partnerships between communities and research entities; develops improved interventions that are racially and culturally focused, as well as gender, age, and geographically sensitive; and establishes more effective health policies addressing health disparities.
